Short communication Effect of defoliation on garlic yield

چکیده
The results of the four trials to determine the effects of different defoliation treatments on garlic yield, carried out in the Central Ebro Valley (Spain), are presented. Four defoliation levels of 0 (control), 33, 66 and 100% were applied at seven different developmental stages. The results demonstrate a close relationship between yield reduction and the defoliation treatment in ̄icted. The higher the defoliation level, the higher the yield reduction. Defoliation imposed at the onset of bulb formation resulted in maximum yield reduction. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Responses of Maize (SC704) Yield and Yield Components to Source Restriction
Understanding the relationship between sink and source in maize is of prime importance in maize growing regions. In this study, a field experiment was carried out during spring and summer 2007 in the experimental field of the College of Agriculture, Shiraz University, to examine the effects of source restriction (defoliation) on sink size (yield and its components) of SC704 maize hybrid. A fa...

متن کاملEvaluation of defoliation on leaf water relations, chlorophyll content, and grain yield of triticale (x triticosecale wittmack) genotypes under water stress
ABSTRACT Optimizing the source size and its utilization by the sink is one of the main factors enhancing the yield potential and decreasing water demand in crops when exposed to drought. To investigate the effect of defoliation on leaf water relations, chlorophyll content and yield components of five triticale genotypes including Sanabad, Juanillo, ET-83-3, ET-84-5 and ET-84-8 under well-watere...
